Fashion for Change is a student-run artistic club on the University of Waterloo campus focused on promoting fashion and artistic expression in a variety of different avenues. We encourage the student body to explore the world of arts, in areas such as fashion, music, dance and drama.
Fashion for Change unites students from a variety of academic disciplines, from both the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University. Our club is comprised of almost 200 students, consisting of our Board of Directors, Executive Members, and Models.
Throughout the year, we host a series of events to promote Fashion for Change, as well as to raise funds for our partner charity, WE (formally known as Free The Children). Events include Holiday Showcase, Dance Workshop, Model Workshop, Annual Theme Release Party, and the Annual Charity Fashion Show and After Party.
Fashion for Change hosts the largest annual student-run charity fashion show in the Tri-City region. Our fashion show is unique in many aspects, as it incorporates choreographed dancing, performances, as well as student designed clothing and jewelry. During the show, models showcase clothing and accessories from our many sponsors such as Jean Machine, Suzy Shier, Stars, Bench, Aeropostale, West49 and styles from our incredibly talented Fashion Designers! The Fashion Show is a remarkable sight to see, and every year we sell out all 700 seats in Hagey Hall Theatre.
We are now in our seventh year, and after last year’s show in 2016, we have raised over $80,000 over the past six years for WE’s Adopt A Village Campaign, supporting our village in Moyamba, Sierra Leone to rebuild their community, focusing on their pillar of education.
Fashion for Change would like to thank all of our generous sponsors and volunteers who have supported us in the past five years. We strive to provide students with a rich learning experience outside the classroom as well as an opportunity to participate in a socially beneficial activity in support of our global community. Here’s to another great year!
